XL is for size of Egyptian display, not football

Hello all,

Sunday was a nice, easy day for me. Best of all is that I am here and I was not in the U.S. listening to endless Super Bowl hype. When your team isn't in the game -- and thanks to Gary Anderson's missed FG the Vikings haven't been there in a LONG time -- it's always hard to care much about the supposed "Big Game." Besides, Game 7 of a Stanley Cup final is ALWAYS going to be a better game in my opinion!

Back to reality and Sunday. It started when I got up and Giusi picked me up in her car and we first went for brunch. Good stuff again! A frittata, two kinds of pasta, zucchini, potatoes, bread and for dessert (make that three since they have so many and you get a slice of any three) I tried a coffee pie-like creation, a slice of a pie that was like a chocolate mousse but Giusi says is a dessert that is traditional for Torino and I also had a large sugar chip. It was washed down with a beer that hit the spot.

After this meal we went to the Museo Egizio (Egyptian Museum) to see the world's second-largest collection of Egyptian artifacts (Cairo has the largest). It was truly fascinating as Giusi, who is a volunteer at the museum, delighted in explaining little bits of information that one might not get with a guided tour. We were able to stay ahead of one such tour group for most of the time. Also, it's doubtful many people got the English-speaking tour I did. Guisi's English is good, but there are times when I actually get to help her learn a few words of English. I am still trying my best to add more phrases, but then again, Si and No and Grazie are easy ones.

The museum is quite a sight for anyone. It is a must to see, not only for the sheer size of it, but also because it has added a few new areas for display and it is certainly a prideful site for a city that is looking at the Olympics as a chance to give itself a big image boost.

After the museum, we walked around Torino some more and went to the visitor center. I got a pocket-sized guide for the Olympics that will help me navigate my way better once I move to an apartment in the heart of the city.

Later Sunday, we had dinner at F.lli La Cozza, a restaurant that is part of a group of restaurants partially owned by a showman Piero Chiambretti, according to Giusi. She had a plate of different kinds of seafood while I had a "four seasons" pizza with ham, olives, mushroom and artichoke (I asked for no artichokes this time so technically I had a three seasons pizza!). Also, we sat upstairs overlooking the pizza makers. Behind us, too, in a big dining area, was a large group of Russian coaches for the Olympics. The athletes weren't there, but Russia sure has a lot of coaches.

We called it a night after dinner and I had time to unwind and check out my digital camera. Trust me loyal www.rtbwow.blogspot.com readers I will get photos up at some point, but it might not be until later this week.

One thing to note, however, is that I got a message from blogger.com (the site I used to set this blog up) and the blogs will be out of commission on Monday (Feb. 6) from 7-8 p.m. Pacific time for some maintenance. No worries. I'm sleeping at that time anyway!

Oh, and I checked the Internet earlier today. I guess the Steelers were the best team this season after all. At least Minnesota lost to the eventual champions this season. Oh, and Jerome Bettis might have been the story in Detroit at the Super Bowl, but I know of at least a few blog readers who can say that Bettis was, at one time, a neighbor in Placentia when the big running back was an L.A. Ram.

Until I write again, Ciao all!

Bettis -- You had two blog readers watching the game from home yesterday. While the family was hoping for Seattle, I had to send the good luck to the former neighbor.
