I just wanted to let people who read my blog know that on Wednesday (it is 12:30 a.m. Wed. right now) I will be moving my stuff to an a new residence and much closer to the action of the Olympics.
I've spent six great nights at the Albergo Martin/Il Manuale residence in Volpiano, not too far from Torino but far enough to have taken my first train ride into the city on Tuesday.
Volpiano might not look like much of a place, but I'll certainly always speak well of its very small-town charm. There's a grocery store at the end of the block that I've visited three times; the restaurant Il Manuale where I've eaten one lunch and one dinner and on Monday night, I even had a small glass of guappa (firewater) which is considered a normal after-dinner drink.
Giusi, who is my guide/English translator during my entire month in Italy, lives in Volpiano and if you ever get to Italy and especially northwest Italy, let me know because once you meet her, you'll know you've met someone special, too.
She also helped me find my new residence, an apartment that will be right in the middle of it all in Torino during the Olympics, and I am looking forward to the new place to continue what in six days has already been fantastic.
Ciao!

Wow, I feel like I am reading the male version of "Under the tuscan sun". Life in Italy sounds good - I'm glad to hear you are soaking up lots of the local culture. Drink a glass of wine for me! :) Kathy
